I first met Kaylin and Hyo when they flew me out to New York City for their engagement session last fall! We spent the most incredible afternoon exploring Central Park and wandering through Soho, and I knew right then their wedding would be something special. These two have this effortless way about them—laid-back, yet intentional in every detail, which perfectly sums up their Brooklyn New York City wedding day.
Let’s talk about Kaylin’s impeccable style for a moment. Her dress was unlike anything I’ve ever photographed—the texture was this stunning, soft brushed tweed, with this beautiful minimal silhouette that made such a statement. She has this gift for combining understated elegance with unexpected details, like the way she incorporated these gorgeous pops of color in her florals. Everything felt so thoughtfully curated without ever feeling overdone, which I absolutely lovvvvve.
Their candlelit dinner felt like an intimate gathering of their closest people, with speeches that had everyone alternating between laughter and happy tears. But the moment that truly made me emotional was their traditional Korean tea ceremony. When I first saw them in their hanboks – Kaylin in that stunning green silk with intricate embroidery and Hyo in deep purple – I immediately teared up. The whole ceremony was this perfect blend of meaningful tradition and pure joy, especially as they navigated the customs with laughter and love.
One of my favorite parts of every wedding is stealing my couples away for intentional portrait time. With Kaylin and Hyo, these moments were pure magic. We played with flash photography to create some editorial moments that showed off their natural chemistry, and then – in what felt like a scene from a movie – we headed to the rooftop for sunset portraits. Standing there with the New York City skyline as our backdrop, watching these two just be together… it was one of those “pinch me” moments that reminded me why I love what I do.
