The little things really are the big things - and they deserve to be captured intentionally. Nothing fills me with more joy than bearing witness to the beauty of your love, in all its untamed, uninhibited glory. Let’s bottle up that feeling and make it last.

San Diego California Wedding | Flor + Jaden

Featured, Weddings

I always love traveling for weddings, so when Flor and Jaden asked me to fly out to photograph their summery San Diego wedding, it was an easy yes from me! From the moment I arrived, their wedding day just felt so genuinely, purely happy—it was one of those days as a photographer where I kept thinking to myself how lucky I feel to celebrate such beautiful people as a job!

They chose to get married at the stunning San Diego California Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, which was literally one of the most breathtaking venues I’ve ever seen. As we were arriving to the venue, I remember catching a glimpse of it off the highway and gasping aloud in my car to myself (lol), it was that incredible. Although we were shooting mostly in direct afternoon sunlight, it was such a beautiful, creamy, sun-drenched location that I fell in love with their direct-sun family portraits and would gladly shoot there again and again.

Their reception was beautifully set at a private family-owned venue where Flor had grown up visiting with her family. I always love when couples are able to incorporate meaningful touches throughout their day, so the fact she had so many memories already there made it so special.

Because honoring their families was such an important element for them to highlight, there were so many intricate, thoughtful details throughout their celebration to reference and honor significant people in their lives and the cultural traditions they shared. Flor’s father sang a beautiful song to the new couple, and Jaden’s father sang the song for the mother/son dance. It was one of the most heartfelt moments, I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room. I was definitely tearing up watching their families together, their love for each other was so evident.

One of my favorite parts of the evening was the money dance, which is a traditional dance performed at many weddings to signify well-being for the couple. I loved that this gave Flor and Jaden the chance to have a few intentional moments with so many of their guests. I remember my own wedding day wishing I could have interacted with more of my guests, and I totally wish we would’ve done something like this! Such a sweet, special tradition.
